HOW TO INTERVIEW LIKE A ROCKSTAR — media workshop

*Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls (WMRC) is a non-profit music and mentoring program that empowers cisgender and trans girls, women and/or gender nonbinary youth and adults through music education, volunteerism and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.

I designed a curriculum incorporating the summer camp themes of Cooperation, Consensus and Leadership to empower the Campers to find their voices — as individuals and as supportive band members — so they could interview like a rockstar when given the metaphorical or literal mic. As a camp keepsake and reinforcement to find one’s voice and to exercise how to amplify it, I designed a **zine with compiled quotes, advice and interviews for Campers to take with them.

The live workshops were co-facilitated with wonderful Collaborators Shira Bannerman and India Rogers-Schepp to Campers aged 12 to 18-years-old with simulated press interviews conducted onstage. Music Journalist and Editor Pamela Grossman joined, alongside Shira Bannerman, in contributing to the print zine.
